Question

I want to make use of the Mini monitor port to enable two monitors.

I have one monitor on the HDMI port and want to use a VGA monitor on the mini monitor port. However I cant find an adaptor for this and I have tried micro-hdmi, mini-hdmi and display port connectors none of which fit.

Can somebody help please?

Question

Since updating to Windows 8.1, the login screen has stopped working properly

Since updating to Windows 8.1, the Windows login screen has stopped working properly - I only see a blank coloured screen with a couple of white icons in the bottom corner - the icons and only when I move my mouse over where the enter password box should be does it reveal anything.

I have all the latest drivers on SW Update

Hi.

It is possible that the touch pad feature has been turned off. Please check out page 56 of the user manual to view the steps on changing the touchpad settings. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201403/20140319152314943/Win8_Manual_eng.pdf

Intel Graphics drivers

SW Update is next to useless and contains only out of date drivers.
Intel and AMD indicate new drivers and yet when they are run from Intel I cannot run them, due to them being required to be supplied by Samsung! Can I have them then!

Question

Battery Drains really fast!

my NP740U is just over a year old ( of course), the battery is draining really fast, i unplug it and came back a couple of hours later, the battery was 5%... this has happened a few times now and of course again, the battery is sealed, so not as easy as replacing it. I know they don&#59;t last for ever, but any ideas please.

If you require a software update, please check out this link for he relevant updates and drivers http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-computers/laptops/NP740U3E-S01UK. If you need to reinstall the drivers, you can recover the drivers from the recovery program software at the above link. How do I reset my computer

My NP740U3E laptop has worked well for several months. Yesterday evening I pressed the shutdown button on the screen when I finished working. This morning I pressed the power switch to start it, the power light and keyboard back light came on but the screen remained blank and the keyboard does not seem to be operational (the caps lock light does not toggle). How can I reset the computer?

Hi Azeem,

As this product only comes with a maximum 128gb Solid state drive (SSD) the only way to increase the size of this would be to purchase a larger SSD yourself and get it installed at one of our authorised service centers. It is possible to purchase quality Samsung products from some of these service centers also to ensure the warranty is still valid.

Is it safe to update to Windows 8.1?

I tried to update to windows 8.1 a week after it was released but my laptop wouldn't boot, getting stuck on the Samsung loading screen. I had to restore the laptop from scratch. I am wondering if it is safe to update to Windows 8.1 yet, or if the drivers still need fixing?

Hi Luke,

Before you upgrade to Windows 8.1 update all your drivers to their latest versions. Please follow these steps.

1. From the desktop move your cursor to the bottom-right of the screen to open the Charms bar.

2. Click on Search in the Charms bar.

3. In the Search field type "SW Update". Click on the SW Update tool that appears in the search results.

Once this SW Update is completed is it safe to upgrade to Windows 8.1 through the Store App on your laptop.

Hi,

When your notebook is operating on the battery, the LCD brightness is dimmed automatically to save battery power.

If you want to increase the brightness of your LCD press Fn + ↑ (up key).

To remove the dimming effect, you can set your notebook to maximum performance.

NOTE: Maximum performance will drain your battery significantly.

Please follow the steps below:

Click Start > Control Panel.
Click on Performance and Maintenance.
Click on Power Options.
In Power schemes select Maximum performance. Click on Apply.
Click OK.

I note that there is only a miniVGA output but I need to connect to a VGA-compatible projector to give presentations. The user guide mentions a dongle but I am unable to locate such a dongle (based in the UK) and the dongles listed on the website are described as incompatible or unavailable
