Question

On this model the Overview and features clearly state Full HD. The specs say 1600 x 900. This is very misleading. Is it full hd or not?

Current standard of HD is rather misleading.

Technically 1280x720p is considered to be Full HD. which means that they are safe in saying that the computer is able to do "Full HD" even though most computers run at 1080p

Soon it will be even more misleading as 2K and 4K resolutions become even more common

JT is right. I also own this laptop and its highest resolution is 1600 x 900 and my driver is totally up to date. It uses an Intel(R) HD 4000 Graphics Adapter. Except there's something else somewhere I don't know but I don't think so.

I'm not sure what JT48 is talking about, he might not have the right drivers installed. I am on this laptop right now and I have the resolution set to 1920x1080, full HD. It also works full HD on an external display.

I have had this model for about 8 months. The best info. I have is that it has 2 memory slots - each taking a maximum of 4 Gb. I would prefer more memory - probably the reason I will upgrade to something else next year

I'm also curious about this, though I'm a bit concerned about calavandriel's response as I can only find 2 slots (and the spec & manual only state 2 slots).

there are 3 memory slots so in theory it could run any triple size set of memory strips. I currently have 3x4gb sticks of ddr3 mem in mine and it is running well

I downloaded the manual. There is a guide for adding memory and a new hard drive. The chipset does support two sata 3 hard drives. Once I purchase I want to install an SSD as my main boot device. It's worth downloading.

Question

Why is there two graphic cards?

The tech spec clearly states that it has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card installed but when I go to change the settings, it's done via Intel instead. I've looked in Device Manager and there are two cards listed in the display adapters, the NVIDIA and an Intel HD Graphics 4000. Is it safe to disable the Intel card or is it needed for something?

the intel HD4000 Graphics is the default graphics processor thats inbuilt onto the cpu die, i.e. its a part of the cpu, the nvidia graphics card kicks in when you want to do some gaming or use graphics intensive taksk.
its like the intel hd 4000 is what you use when you want to walk and the nvidia gpu is for when you want to run, either way you still want your legs..
the intel gpu is used when you want to use as little battery as possible while you use the nvidia gpu when you want full on gaming/graphical performance.
dont disable anything

Hi Luke,

Unfortunately the unit does not contain a Firewire port as this type of connection is no longer commonly used. You should however be able to purchase a third party USB Firewire adapter to allow you to make the connection with your device.

Thanks.
