The main reason would be to fit a data capable SIM card and surf the web, download apps, email and communicate like any other smart phone - no reliance on using wifi for your connectivity (although you can do that as well) - It also allows you to make regular telephone calls if you have a voice capable SIM rather than just a data only SIM card. You'll need and earphone otherwise the recipient's voice is heard via the loudspeakers (so anyone nearby can hear incoming call conversations)

When running "GPS Test" app it clearly indicates GLONASS GPS satellites being receive as well as regular GPS satellites. The software specifically shows the two types being recieved so I would say yes it is Glonass capable.

I also have not yet received the Jellybean 4.1 update on my Tab2 10.1" 3G tablet.....it seems that the "3G Tab2" update is still not yet available although the "Tab2 wifi" only version has started to receive the update. Patience I guess.

A standard mobile phone SIM card is used (ideally with data), obviously you must have the 3G version of the Tab2 - my UK version is the GT-P5100

The SIM port is on the top to the right of the headphone socket, it's a little cover the flips up and the SIM drops in. Do check you actually have the 3G model.

Yes they have a GPS receiver built in - if you have the 3G cellular version of the Tab2 it will also use the cellular network for faster GPS signal aquisition (when you first turn on GPS it gets a reference signal from the 3G cellular signal which speeds up the process)

If I turn my Tab2 3G data off (airplane mode) the GPS still works but takes longer to initially find a GPS signal, once found (about 60 to 90 seconds from cold) it then correclty receives GPS.

If 3G is available then GPS usually takes a few seconds to find the GPS signal.

The Tab2 seems to have a fairly good GPS receiver in it.

If you buy the 3G version and insert a suitable SIM card then yes it can behave much like a cellular telephone (Mobile phone) - a couple of points to note however:

- the Tab2 7" 3G model behaves like a regular mobile phone if making/receiving calls, you hold it close to your head like a normal phone.

- the Tab2 10.1" 3G model does not have an earpiece and so the received audio (incoming voice) is heard via the loudspeakers and so is quite load (like on speakerphone) so you would ideally need to use a headphone/ earphone with mic otherwise your calls will be heard by others nearby.

Hi,

Adobe recently ceased support for their Mobile Flash Player app which was compatible with some versions of the Android operating system on some of our devices. Due to this decision by Adobe, most websites and content providers have either switched to an alternative display technology for mobile devices, or are making plans to do so.

Please note that the Adobe Mobile Flash Player app is not developed nor maintained by Samsung and we are not able to advise on the future development of third party applications.

Thanks
