Looking for Answers about samsung Galaxy S III?

My advice is for you to pick one up and use it. How can you ask for someone else's opinion on its size? If you are however a one armed bandit and think you measure a phone by the ability to use only your thumb, I think you'd struggle to comfortably reach the top of the screen but the keyboard and general use is fine IMO. I find it is bizarre that the majority of smartphone users I see, use two hands to text message, yet using one hand is somehow important to some people. Its a lovely screen and I think this is about as big as screens will need to get.

I have big hands, so it's perfect, could even be a bit bigger

For about the first 30 minutes it felt quite big but now I've had mine for a month and when ever I look at someone elses phone I think it's tiny! And they say my phones to big though.

When I got it out the box for about an hour it looked very big then after 1 hour it felt just right and not that big at all.

I rang Vodafone on Monday morning. My 16Gb pebble blue Samsung Galaxy S3 was delivered to my home Tuesday morning, despite being told I would be on the pre-order waiting list and expected end of next week.

It was released last month. The Pebble Blue version got delayed due to concerns with quality control, however they are still available. I bought mine this morning (Blue one, they had 3 in stock).

I have downloaded the user manual and read the tech specs. I think the S III comes in 16 Gb, 32 Gb and 64 Gb versions, and you can put in a micro SDHC card which can be up to 64 Gb in the memory card slot after you lift the back cover off.

The S3 can take up to a 64gig MicroSD card. These cards will be the of the MicroSDHC variety.

Yes it is. Larger batteries (with new backs) are now available (October 2012) from the far east via ebay, should you need to obtain them quick. Not sure how good they'll be but if they power more than a day's use it will make a big difference.

Here is what Thomas from Samsung Online Support Team told me last week:

"Yes, this phone supports dual channel Wi-Fi. Based on the specifications it is capable of supporting 300-400mbps due to the Wi-Fi HT40 support."

This is backed up from a mate in the know who says the S3 does have Wifi 2 aerials, whereas the S2 had only 1 so was limited to (only!) 150Mbps.

Remember UK's planned LTE (4G) frequencies are different from those in the US.

This is why the IPad v3 will not work now or ever in the UK on 4G. Which is why they have had to drop the "4G" from all their marketing... apart from the bits they forgot!

The US variant of the S3 is called "SGH-i747" [see Wikipedia] and supports 4G frequencies at 700MHz whereas the UKs will be 800 and 2600MHz.It also has 2G RAM and a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait. Others phones with quad core also have 2 core 4G variants for the US - some issue with quad core chip-sets and LTE stack support at the moment.

So imported US "SGH-i747" phones WILL NEVER work on 4G in this country - even when we have a launched 4G network in the UK and they haven't even auctioned the frequencies off yet! It's taken a decade for 3G coverage to get to patchy, I can't imagine 4G coverage going any faster in this cash strapped land.

Found "TecTile Programmable NFC Tags" from Samsung (see http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ETC-TT1G6NGSTA) which can be programmed to, amongst many other things, launch a chosen app when u hold the S3 against them.

So if u stick one on the car dock/cradle it could be made to launch your satnav app automatically - no buttons (if phone can still fit the dock with sticker in place else stick it close by!). I guess it can also initiate the S3's "driving mode" too - so u get text to speech on call/message notifications etc.

The app doesn't have to be running to activate behavior, though from the reviews people wish it would be capable of doing more things (like launch app and turn on bluetooth though the documentation seems to imply that u can - at least for 'phone settings':

I guess we need upgrade to firmware and the app for more flexibility. Maybe bigger capacity tags?

Thus u do have a mechanism of sorts to get your phone behaving as a sat nav device in the car with no fiddling about with buttons. Now to get rid of the fiddle of plugging in your charger with a true car dock...
