Question

Samsung Galaxy S2 phone flight mode permanently on

My Samsung galaxy S2 has the flight mode airplane symbol permanently on. Strangely when I go into wireless and network setting the flight mode icon is not ticked. Then when I look into my mobile network settings I get the message "Insert SIM card to access network services" However my sim card is inserted, I have tried taking out and putting back in with no change. I have not dropped the phone, split anything on the phone, just been like this from yesterday woth no prior warning. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix? Thanks

Hi.

I recommend performing a factory data reset on your Galaxy S II. You can do this by following these steps:
Settings - Back up and reset - Factory data reset - Reset device - Erase everything.

Performing a factory data reset will erase all data from your device. I advise that you back up your data on Samsung KIES. Please see the link below to find all of the information and tutorials on Samsung KIES:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/

If the factory data reset does not improve the performance of your device then I advise taking your Galaxy S II to your nearest service centre. Please visit the link below which will aid you in locating it:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/servicelocation/

I hope this helps.

Hi.

I recommend trying the troubleshoot connection option on Samsung Kies. To perform the “troubleshooting connection” please follow the steps below.

1. Disconnect the device from the computer and launch Samsung Kies.
2. Connect your device to the computer via USB cable.
3. Click "Troubleshoot connection error". You can also access this under “Tools”.
4. Kies is now initializing the connection. (The time of completion will vary depending on your computers performance.)
5. Click complete and use Samsung Kies with your device.

If this is unsuccessful then uninstall and reinstall Samsung Kies back on to your computer and connect your device again. If possible, try using a different USB cable and USB connection port. Ensure that you are operating on Samsung Kies and not Kies 3. This is essential due to Kies 3 only supporting models on android version 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and above. For more information and tutorials about Samsung Kies please visit the link below.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/

I hope this helps.

Question

Is there a way to tell what hardware version we have without dismantling it?

I need to change the charge port on my Galaxy S2 and it looks like there are different hardware versions which is not surprising.

Question is, can we tell what version our S2 is without taking it apart? If we really have to take it apart then how do we tell what version it is?

Hi.

You do have an option to avoid poor connections when using WI-FI on the Galaxy S II. When this is enabled, it will not connect to a WI-FI connection unless it has a strong connection If you are connected to a WI-FI connection and then it goes weak, the WI-FI will disconnect and it will run on mobile data.
To enable this option please follow these steps:

Settings > WI-FI > Advanced > Select Avoid Poor Connections

I hope this helps.

Question

Help with dead S2 please

Hello -

My Galaxy S2 has died in stages. First it got very hot after I left the GPS on in the car. Then the battery took ages to charge and only held a charge for about four hours so I got a new one, supposedly a Samsung original, which helds its charge for about the same time, and the phone got warm but not as hot as the first time . Now it wont turn on at all, even when plugged into a charger; nor will Kies "see" it. Is it dead?

I did manage to do a Kies backup before it died completely. Will I be able to transfer that data back to a new phone if the current one cant be resusitated?

Thanks for any advice.

Ian.

Question

why do the 3 s2s in my house have problems with wifi not in range all the time?

Among the devices in my household, 3 are samsung galaxy s2s...
Why is it other devices connect with no problem to our wifi but the s2s are getting the wifi not in range message pretty much constantly now...
My phone has been doing this nearly everyday since doing an update weeks ago... Some days it says wifi not in range ALL day... I have checked with virgin media (my service provider) and they say as all the other devices are connected its not a virgin problem and that it has something to do with the product... I have an autistic son with one of these phones and its a constant nightmare nowadays... he has lost his temper so many times with it and me for not being able to fix it its ridiculous :-( xx iv done factory resets and reboots so many times :( its always the s2s xx

Hi Peter.

You will have to perform a reset on the device if you are stuck on the lock screen. To do this, turn the device off, take the battery out, leave for a couple of minutes, put the battery back in then hold the power, menu, volume up keys all at the same time. This will reset the device.

Hope this helps
