The top lid can be 'opened completely' to fit thick or large objects on the scanner.
Colors are in 4 cartridges, (3 for colors and 1 for black).

Hi Sam,
We can confirm that this device can convert into PDF format. You will need to select this in order to perform this. Why not try having a look at the user manual which will provide the necessary instructions.
